About Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan is a landlocked country in Central Asia, bordered by Kazakhstan, China, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Known as the 'Switzerland of Central Asia', it is a land of dramatic mountain scenery, nomadic traditions, and warm hospitality — largely untouched by mass tourism.

Location

Central Asia, bordered by Kazakhstan to the north, China to the east, Tajikistan to the south, and Uzbekistan to the west. The capital is Bishkek.

Language & Currency

The official languages are Kyrgyz and Russian. The currency is the Kyrgyzstani Som (KGS). Most prices in tourist areas are also quoted in US dollars.

Best Time to Visit

Late spring to early autumn (May–September) is ideal for trekking and outdoor activities. Issyk-Kul is warmest in July and August. Winter offers skiing and snow landscapes.

Getting There

Manas International Airport in Bishkek is the main entry point, with direct flights from Moscow, Istanbul, Dubai, Beijing, and several Central Asian capitals. Osh also has an international airport.

Safety & Travel

Kyrgyzstan is generally considered safe for tourists. The main risks are altitude sickness in mountain areas and road conditions in remote regions. Travel insurance is strongly recommended.

Culture & Etiquette

Kyrgyz culture is rooted in nomadic traditions. Hospitality is sacred — accepting tea and food when offered is a sign of respect. Dress modestly when visiting mosques and rural communities.
